The customer is a leading manufacturer-independent leasing company in Germany. The combination of the most varied of competencies - from investment solutions and technical know-how to expert partners - enables the company to offer a comprehensive service.
- IBM Mainframe with the operating system z/OS
- UNIX and Windows workstations
- VSAM file format and the databases Db2 and Oracle
The customer's goal was to replace old technologies with new applications. The new technologies should be implemented on the "Hub and Spoke" concept, i.e. the data of the old applications of the mainframe are transferred to a so-called staging area and processed there in a data mart in accordance with the business processes. The staging area are Oracle databases.
The initial implementation consisted of the nightly batch processing with the transfer of the data extracted from Db2 or VSAM and transferred via FTP. However, this process quickly reached the limits of this form of processing. The batch window was insufficient to transfer the data and the customer ran the risk of not being able to comply with the service level agreements.
The decision to replace the existing process with tcVISION was made. The changes in Db2 could be determined directly and in real time or via log files and transferred to the staging area. An analogous procedure was implemented for the VSAM files after batch processing. The batch compare method from tcVISION was selected for this.
The customer was able to go into production with the process in a very short time and expectations have been more than met. The customer was able to save an average of 6 hours of processing time per day. The data is available to the department at 9 a.m. and all service level agreements are kept. Another advantage was the drastic saving of mainframe resources through the use of tcVISION.
